Music is thriving at Nassington School. We work in close partnership with our education partners, NMPAT (Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust) to provide quality musical experiences.
We currently offer Violin and Cello lessons on Mondays for children in Year 2 and above and Brass lessons on Wednesdays for children in Year 3 and above.
We are one of the lead schools (the other being Polebrook) in a cluster music initiative called the Oundle and Thrapston Cluster Orchestra. The orchestra meets once a term and holds a concert in June at St Peter's Church in Oundle. Children from all 9 primary schools in the cluster participate and there are usually around 120 players from Years 2-6. Our Music Co-ordinator, Mrs Little directs the orchestra, selects the repertoire and liaises with the other schools.
We have two choirs which meet weekly. Our KS1 choir meets on a Tuesday after school and is directed by Mrs Randle. Our KS2 choir meets on a Thursday lunchtime and is directed by Mrs Little. Both are open to anyone in the correct key stage.
Our KS2 Choir has been invited to perform as part of the Schools' Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2017 in association with or music education partners, NMPAT.
All children participate in a weekly singing assembly and every child participates in our two annual musical concerts - our final Christmas assembly and our Summer Music Concert.
Children in Silver Birch participate in a recorder project every two years with Mrs Little .
On occasion, children have the opportunity to engage with outside performances and last year some children were able to attend a concert given by a 12 year old virtuoso violinist as part of the Oundle International Festival in July.
We are also working closely with local composer, Paul Roger to develop some original songs about the history of the village to create a CD.
