Governors

Welcome to the Nassington School Governors' page.

The Governing Body of Nassington School helps the staff to maintain standards, develop policies and guide the strategic direction of the school. There are few areas of school life that governors do not get involved with. Most governors are not education professional so we bring a useful external view to the continuous improvement of the school. You can read more about the individuals on the other pages.

There are 12 governors and we meet six times per year, usually at the start of each term. Every governor has additional responsibilities such as supporting particular areas of the curriculum or overseeing an element of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). The Governing Body is made up of:

4 Parent Governors

Elected by parents and carers.

2 LA Governors

selected from local nominations by the Local Authority to represent their views.

3 staff Governors

Representing the views of staff. The staff governors include the Headteacher, a Teacher and a Teaching Assistant.

3 Community Governors

Selected by the other Governors to represent the local community.

Co-opted Governors

Additional people who the Governing Body feel will provide additional value to the running of the school. We have 1 co-opted governor. These people cannot vote.

In addition to the meetings of the full governing body, there are two sub-committees that meet three times per year. The Teaching and Learning committee focuses on monitoring and supporting the development of high quality teaching in the school. The Resources committee looks after everything to do with buildings, finance and staffing.

Expansion of the school

There is a clear focus for the governing body this year and that is the expansion of the school facilities to cope with the ever increasing number of children attending our successful school. This is a good problem to have in many ways! However, we must not neglect the short term needs of children here and now for the needs of those in the future.

After much discussion about the transfer of the Nassington/Yarwell Preschool onto the school site, the limitation we have with funding and space means that we must focus on the needs of the children in school first. There are no active plans to move pre-school onto the site at this time.

We are working closely with the Local Authority to secure temporary classroom space (portokabin) as soon as possible. This is supported by our local councillors and we are hopeful that it will not be too long before this occurs. The main barrier is the ability to get the facility on site through the fields behind the school. As weather conditions inprove in the Spring we expect the facility to be available.

Meanwhile we are looking at the potential for a permanent new building in the medium term. Plans are being outlined and discussions are happening with the Local Authority on the subject of finance. We believe this is a realistic approach and will be able to share more with you as soon as information is available.
